Tuesday, August 20

Schwartz Rounds to shed light on who is at risk of substance abuse, resources for recovery 

Doris Whitaker, pastoral services director, will facilitate the Schwartz Center Rounds 2019 Series: "Are We Too Busy?" discussion, " This is Us: Shedding Light On Who is at Risk of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Resources for Recovery," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, in room CW 106 of the Classroom Wing.

LSU faculty to present Grand Rounds

Dr. Leanne Redman, Professor, Director, Reproductive Endocrinology and Women’s Health Laboratory, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana State University will present Grand Rounds titled: “Great Expectations! Understanding Energy Balance To Advance Management of Obese Pregnancies”, at noon on Thursday, August 22 in Room A035 of the School of Nursing building.

MEW journal club to discuss breaking prejudice habit

Dr. Shannon Pittman, professor and chair of family medicine, will serve as the discussion leader for the next Health Disparities Journal Club meeting, “Breaking the Prejudice Habit: Mechanisms, Timecourse and Longevity," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in conference room D on the second floor of the student union.

All Medical Center faculty, staff and students are invited. The session is sponsored by the Myrlie Evers Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities.

Health system CEO to host chat over coffee

Kevin Cook, health system chief executive officer, will host a “Coffee Talk” presentation from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the Perioperative Conference Room.

University of Mississippi faculty to promote 'Radical Togetherness'

Dr. Patrick Elliot Alexander, associate professor of English and African American Studies at the University of Mississippi, will present the Office of Diversity and Inclusion's "InclUsive" conversation, "Toward a Radical Togetherness: African American Literature, Abolition Pedagogy, and the Prison-to-College Pipeline Program," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, in ballrooms C & D of the Student Union.

Johns Hopkins prof to talk adult cortical plasticity recovery

Dr. Hey-Kyoung Lee, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, will give the UMMC Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series presentation, "Cross-Modal Recovery of Cortical Plasticity in Adults," from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in classroom 3A (North Wing N318).

Tuesday, Oct. 15

Vice chancellor to speak at fall faculty meeting​

Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs, is scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting set for noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Woodward will provide an update for the Medical Center and faculty with 20 years of service will be recognized. Flu shots will be available before and after the meeting from Student and Employee Health. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis.
